Sensory Entanglements: Decolonizing the Senses
Sensory Entanglements: Decolonizing the Senses is an exhibit produced by a team of First Nations, Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, scholars, and curators based in the lands currently known as Canada and Australia.
The exhibit stems from a research-creation project that has been exploring how the human senses participate in cultural world-making through an intercultural laboratory since 2014.
In the last two years, collaborative teams led by Indigenous artists have drawn from emerging technologies to create three immersive sensory environments, in which research on the senses can be experienced by the senses. The world-wide pandemic provoked by Covid-19 altered our plans to show the installations in their physical form, preventing us from gathering and exchanging around them in person.
This web platform, and the video iterations of the works it showcases, was created to bring us (our team and you) into virtual contact.
